Badging & Security

This page is intended to provide information to tenants and airport employees on the LAL Badging process.

• Hours of operations: Tuesday and Thursdays ,10:00am – 12:00pm & 2:00pm - 4:00pm
• Location: Airport Administrative Office, Second floor of the Terminal Building

New Applicant Process

As a new airport employee or tenant, you will need an official airport identification badge to access the airfield, air carrier ramp or other secured areas. Depending upon your job duties, the following conditions must be met before you can be issued an ID badge:

• Complete a Security Access Application form , which must be signed by an authorized signer from your organization/FBO.
• Bring the appropriate documents to verify identity and U.S. employment eligibility (2 IDs required).
• Complete the computer based SIDA or Security training if required by badge type
• Complete the computer based Airfield Driver training if required
• Pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check if required (SIDA/sterile area badges only)
• If authorized, specific vehicle insurance requirements must be met before driving on the airfield
• Pay the fee, CASH or CHECK (to CITY OF LAKELAND) if it is not paid by your employer

Badge Renewal Process

Badges are issued for a period of no more than 24 calendar months from your birth month. You must apply for renewal prior to your badge expiration date. You will need to meet the following requirements prior to renewal:

• Complete a Security Access Application form, signed by your tenant/employer's authorized signer
• Pay the renewal fee (see ID Badge Fees Chart) if it is not paid by your employer
• Complete the computerized recurrent training
• Complete and sign the Lost ID Badge Form prior to renewal if lost or stolen ID
• Pass the fingerprint check if SIDA/sterile area access was cancelled more than 30 days ago and pay the fee (see ID Badge Fees Chart)

Responsibilities

EMPLOYER/FBO

o Have a current Authorized Signer on file with the ID Badging Office
o Notify the ID Badge Office or Operations after hours of ID badge cancellations at (863) 834-4911.
o Collect former employees ID badges and return to ID Badging Office to avoid (see ID Badge Fees Chart)
o Inform employees of renewals when notified by the ID Badging Office 

EMPLOYEE
o Notify the ID Badge Office or Operations after hours of lost or stolen ID badge at (863) 834-4911.
o Respect the rules of use and care of your ID badge


Questions & Answers

• I am a new tenant of the airport, what do I need to do?

Your employer/FBO or Airport Properties must authorize you to have a badge. Complete the Security Access Application form and have your authorized signer sign it at the bottom. Schedule an appointment with the Badging Office (863-834-3298) and bring the completed and signed form and 2 required ID’s to the Badging office. Depending upon the requested access level, it may be necessary for you to have a Criminal History Records Check and for you to complete the SIDA and/or Driver training.

• I am a new employee of the airport, what do I need to do?

Your employer must authorize you to have a badge. Complete the Security Access Application form and have your authorized signer sign it at the bottom. Schedule an appointment with the Badging Office (863-834-3298) and bring the completed and signed form and 2 required ID’s to the Badging office. Depending upon the requested access level, it may be necessary for you to have a Criminal History Records Check and for you to complete the SIDA and/or Driver training.

• I am a new tenant pilot, what do I need to do?

Your Primary Tenant or Airport Properties must authorize you to have a badge. Complete the Security Access Application form and have your authorized signer sign it at the bottom. Schedule an appointment with the Badging Office (863-834-3298) and bring the completed and signed form with and 2 required ID’s to the Badging office to complete computer based General Aviation-Tenant Security training.

• I lost my ID badge, or it was stolen, am I in trouble?

Call Operations immediately (863-834-4911) to report the loss. You must complete the Lost Badge Form and pay $50 for another badge.

• I have a second job at the airport, do I need another ID badge?

Yes, your additional employer must authorize you to have a badge. Complete the Security Access Application form and have your authorized signer sign it at the bottom. You do not have to complete a new Criminal History Records Check or complete the SIDA and/or Driver training if already done so. Schedule an appointment with the Badging Office (863-834-3298) and bring the completed and signed form to the ID Badging office.

• I changed companies; do I need a new ID badge?

Yes, but first return your current badge to the ID Badging office. Then, your new employer must authorize you to get a new badge. Complete the Security Access Application form and have your authorized signer sign it at the bottom. Schedule an appointment with the Badging Office (863-834-3298) and bring the completed and signed form to the ID Badging office. You may not have to complete a new Criminal History Records Check or complete the Security training if already done so. Note: if you had SIDA/Sterile Area access with your original employer, and it has been more than 30 days since you left, we must resubmit your fingerprints. This will result in a fee charged to your new employer.

• What if my badge is not working at certain doors or gates.

Contact the Badging office to find out if you should have access to those doors/gates. If you should have access, it is possible that a door/gate is out of service, or, it could be operator error. In any event, contact the ID Badging Office at (863) 834-3298.

• What if my badge does not work at all.

Contact the Badging Office at (863) 834-3298 or Operations after hours at (863) 834-4911.

• How much does an ID badge cost?

See the ID Badge Fees Chart. Payment is due at time of services. Make check payable to City of Lakeland.

• Can I change my name, job title or authorized access level?

Yes, please contact the Badging Office at (863) 834-3298. There may be a cost for this service.

• When exactly does my ID badge expire?

Badges expire the last day of your birth month. For example, if your badge has 03/12 on the front, this means your badge will expire March 31, 2012. Don’t wait until the last minute to renew your badge. If your badge expires prior to renewal, there is a 3-5 business day waiting period to receive your renewed badge.
